What is a Marine Survey?
Buying a boat can be a tricky business. New vessels sometimes have built in deficiencies. Used vessels often require repair work due to owner negligence or ignorance. Buyers who WANT THE BOAT  often overlook or ignore said deficiencies. Sometimes even the saltiest buyer misses something. At Captain Brazill's,
We don't want the boat. We look at every vessel with a jaundiced eye, as Your advocate. Our written reports lay out what We find, so that You the buyer have the tools to make decisions.
FINANCE/INSURANCE SURVEY
Banks and insurance companies often require inspection. Often the boat has already been purchased. These surveys are akin to a house inspection.
PRE-PURCHASE SURVEY
When the sale of the vessel is "subject to survey", The savvy buyer uses the findings section of the survey when finalizing the deal. we research Your boats TRUE local market value. we report on items banks and insurance companies are not concerned with, i.e.: Does She slam in a chop? What will it take to bring back the faded gel coat? We let You know what You will live with.
A.B.Y.C. (American Boat and Yacht Council) STANDARDS
ABYC is the heart and soul of the survey.
The standards are more strict than the C.F.R.s (Code of Federal regulations. As Underwriter's Labs tests lamps to a higher set of standards than the National Electric Code, ABYC also sets a higher bar. The standards deal with everything from Through hull fittings to bonding to electrical wiring and ALL of our surveys use the standards as their foundation.

This guy drilled holes in the bottom of His fish box so that melted ice will drain to the bilge...with fish scales; clogging the pump
This Wellcraft was damaged by fire and We were hired to inspect repairs
This corroded stanchion while obvious was ignored by two sucessive owners of this runabout and could cause injury
Our Pre-Purhase survey would give You an idea of what would be involved in repairing this gel coat gouge
Tim the Toolman was here
The damage to this houseboat is obvious. What is not is the rot which has spread to the bulkheads and stringers-uninsurable
This fuel vent is corroded to the point that it will fail putting the fuel system at jeopardy
Through hulls must be tightly bedded, or they will leak bringing water on board
